Broadway veteran Kristin Chenoweth is in negotiations to join Jennifer Lopez in Rob Cohen’s thriller “The Boy Next Door,” two individuals familiar with the Universal project have told TheWrap.
Lopez stars as a single mom who has a lustful affair with a teenage neighbor who befriends her son. When she tries to end the relationship, trouble ensues.
Chenoweth will play Lopez’s best friend.
Jason Blum is producing the movie under his Blumhouse banner, which has been on a roll of late, with “The Purge” and “Insidious Chapter 2″ scaring up big bucks at the box office.
Smart Entertainment’s John Jacobs is also producing the low-budget movie with Lopez’s manager Benny Medina and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas of Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions banner. Zac Unterman will executive produce.
Universal is distributing “The Boy Next Door,” which starts production this fall before Lopez begins taping the new season of “American Idol.” Barbara Curry wrote the script.
Chenoweth, who was the first actress to play Glinda the Good Witch in “Wicked,” is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
