Helen Mirren and rising star Manish Dayal have been cast in the DreamWorks drama The Hundred-Foot Journey.
Steve Knight adapted the script from Richard Morais' best-selling book. Lasse Hallstrom will direct the film, which kicks off when an Indian family moves to Southern France and opens an Indian restaurant 100 feet across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant. A culinary battle ensues between the two that ultimately tests the power of family, loyalty and love.
Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake are producing. DreamWorks president of production Holly Bario is overseeing for the studio.
Production will begin in September in France and India and will be released in U.S. theaters on Aug. 8, 2014. Disney is distributing the film in the United States and in select international territories, while Mister Smith Entertainment is handling distribution in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. DreamWorks’ partner Reliance will distribute the film in India.
DreamWorks' upcoming slate includes the comedy Delivery Man, starring Vince Vaughn; theWikiLeaks drama The Fifth Estate; and car racing actioner Need for Speed.
Mirren is a four-time Academy Award nominee who won an Oscar for her portrayal as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen. Her recent credits include Red and Hitchcock. Mirren also starred in the popular drama series Prime Suspect, for which she received two Emmy Awards.
She is repped by CAA.
Dayal, who hails from South Carolina, has appeared in projects for film, TV and the stage. He portrayed Raj Kher in The CW series, 90210. Most recently, Dayal co-starred in the ABC Family series Switched at Birth.
