Gulfstream Adds ‘The Genius Files’ Project Plus Trio Of Execs

Gulfstream Pictures has hired three new execs as it gears up for an additional production, The Genius Files, to be released by Warner Bros where Mike Karz and Bill Bindley’s company is based. Josie Rosen has joined as executive vice president. Rosen comes from Karz Entertainment and previously produced Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Day and Killers for Lionsgate and most recently produced the Kevin Durant vehicle Thunderstruck for Warner Bros. Joining her are incoming creative executives Margaret Chernin and Matt Phelps. Chernin comes from the talent department at Saturday Night Live and will focus on comedy. Phelps comes from Paramount’s and motion pictures creative group and will oversee action, genre films and thrillers. Based on the best-selling children’s book series by Dan Gutman, The Genius Files centers on children the U.S. government recruits as agents. Commercial director Robert Rugan has been hired to adapt. Gulfstream, which signed a exclusive first-look deal with WB in August 2012, is also producing West Texas United set to star Russell Brand and a family comedy called Say Uncle to be directed by Bindley. Gulfstream is also working on the animated feature The Nut Job with Redrover Co. and ToonBox Entertainment.
