Emmett /Furla Films has launched an unscripted division and is lining up a slate of projects with collaborators including comic book legend Stan Lee and Curtis Jackson (50 Cent).
The producer of such films as "End of Watch" and "Alex Cross," will partner with Maria Menounos and Keven Undergaro of Underman/Omegagirl Inc. on the reality programming. Menounos is best known as the co-host of the Hollywood gossip show "Extra."
Among the projects in development are Curtis Jackson's (50 Cent) "Teen Court" based on a revolutionary program designed to help youth offenders; "Jailhouse Weddings," which will follow a family of ex-cons turned ministers whose business is to marry prisoners; and, breaking with the incarceration theme, Stan Lee's "Comic Book," which will track the father of "Spider-Man" as he searches for the next great comic book creator and character. The winner of the Lee show will get a movie deal with Emmett/Furla.
Emmett/Furla is currently shooting "Lone Survivor" with Eric Bana and Mark Wahlberg and will premiere "Broken City" starring Russell Crowe and Wahlberg in 2013. Indeed, it has been a busy time for the company, which recently unveiled high-profile deals with the likes of Hasbro and launched a new television unit.
But not everything has gone smoothly. Production on the Gerard Butler thriller "Motor City" ended abruptly last summer when backing fell through. As TheWrap reported exclusively, vendors and crew members on the film are furious that two months after the project was shelved, they still have not been paid about $500,000 in overdue bills. Emmett/Furla said it is auditing the bills and intends to pay its debts.
Underman/Omegagirl Inc. recently sold an untitled reality show to the Oxygen Network that will center on Menounos and her immigrant parents, which it describes as similar to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
