Christina Applegate is in final negotiations to star opposite Ed Helms in Vacation, New Line’s update of the classic comedy movie series.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are directing the project, which plays like a sequel and a reboot of the Chevy Chase franchise that began with the 1983 Harold Ramis-directed comedy National Lampoon's Vacation. That film was written by John Hughes and was based on his own experiences on family vacations.
The new movie follows Rusty, played by Anthony Michael Hall in the original but now portrayed by Helms, as he takes his family on a similar road trip that his family took when he was young.
Applegate would play Helm’s strong-willed wife who may be losing interest in him.
The movie is Applegate’s first movie since leaving the NBC sitcom Up All Night after it was set to be revamped. She is currently shooting the Anchorman sequel. The last movie she starred in was 2011's Hall Pass, also for New Line.
Applegate is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson.
