Cannes Briefs: Jerry Lewis’ ‘Max Rose’; Hal Hartley’s ‘Ned Rifle’; Festival Adds Film

ICM, IFT Repping Jerry Lewis’ ‘Max Rose’; Actor Headed To Cannes
ICM Partners is repping domestic and International Film Partners has foreign on Max Rose, the official selection title that is part of an homage to its star Jerry Lewis. Claire Bloom, Kevin Pollak, Kerry Bishé and Mort Sahl also star in the Lightstream Pictures production directed by Daniel Noah. Lewis plays an aging jazz musician who goes on a journey through his past after the death of his wife. A restored version of Lewis’ The Ladies Man is also running in Cannes Classics. The legendary actor who, has a long relationship with the festival, will be present in Cannes for the tribute.

Fortissimo Loads Up With Hartley’s ‘Ned Rifle’
Hal Hartley’s Ned Rifle is the third leg of his Grim family trilogy that started with 1998′s Henry Fool and continued with 2007′s Fay Grim. Gemma Arterton, Parker Posey, Liam Aiken and Thomas J. Ryan star in the satire about a thwarted patricide. Fortissimo Films is starting pre-sales in Cannes with shooting to begin later this year. Nelleke Driessen and Bruce Weiss are co-producing with Hartley and Matthew Myers.

Fest Adds Special Screening To Official Selection
Homeland, a debut feature from Mohamed Hamidi, will have a special screening on May 21 for high-school students from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. France’s Jamel Debbouze, who was part of the ensemble that won the top acting prize in Cannes for 2006′s Days Of Glory, features in the story of a French law student who discovers his roots in Algeria. The film will also have a press screening on May 21.
