Bravo has once again revved up its push into scripted television with an order for a pilot based on the Vicki Iovine book series, "Girlfriends' Guide..."
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Glee" producer Marti Noxon wrote the pilot for "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" and will executive-produce alongside Iovine, Dawn Olmstead and Meryl Poster.
"We're thrilled to be working with Marti Noxon on this project," said scripted development and production vice president Andrew Wang in Tuesday's announcement.
"Marti's incredible talent and unique perspective shine through in this compelling exploration of a modern woman's journey through divorce and the next chapter of her life."
The pilot follows the author of a self-help book series who's hiding her separation from her husband from the public. Starting her life over again as a single woman in her 40s, she finds that advice from divorced friends leads to startling new adventures.
"Anything I've ever really needed to know I learned from my girlfriends and passed it on in my Girlfriends' Guides books and blogs," said Iovine. "We all know divorce is difficult to endure, but since most of us are living with it or in fear of it, let's tell the truth about the pain and the possibilities -- and all the 'new sex' along the way."
Added Noxon: "The funny, frank and fabulous tone of Vicki's books provide a perfect jumping off place for the show. I love Bravo and look forward to creating a great 'second marriage' with them!"
The pilot order follows Bravo's recent pass on "Rita," the comedy which starred Anna Gunn in the titular role playing a private school teacher raising three children and dealing with the crazy politics generated by her students' parents. It's other scripted project, "The Joneses" was shelved in March.
