New Trailer: Mustang Doc 'A Faster Horse' by 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi' Maker

What director David Gelb did for world-class Japanese cuisine in Jiro Dreams of Sushi he’s now doing for Ford’s famous Mustang. The new trailer for A Faster Horse (above) offers a glimpse at just how hard it has become to make the beloved American muscle car that first arrived in the mid-1960s.

As the 50th anniversary of the Mustang approaches, it’s not all roses for the crown jewel of Ford’s fleet. Gelb’s new documentary reveals automakers in turmoil as they power through a redesign amid a deep, industry-wide financial crisis. Jobs and workers at the company’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant are at stake as chief program engineer Dave Pericak endeavors to guide the Mustang group back to prominence.

Once the epitome of cool, driven by the likes of Steve McQueen, the big question is: Will the Mustang survive?

A Faster Horse, which premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, becomes available exclusively online on Vimeo Oct. 9. You can also catch it at select theaters, for one night only, on Oct. 8.
