New 'Point Break' Trailer Enlightens Us With Plot Details

The first trailer for the upcoming Point Break remake calmed some early cynicism from fans of the 1991 original when it showcased the new movie’s eye-popping stunts and exotic locations. But it didn’t provide much in terms of plot details. Trailer Part Deux, released today (above), gives us some more insight into what exactly this band of gnarly bandits is up to.

Through carefully placed dialogue over much of the same action pieces we saw the first time around, undercover FBI agent Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey, taking over for Keanu Reeves) explains that the team of adrenaline junkies lead by the guy they call Bodhi (Édgar Ramírez, taking the Patrick Swayze role) are attempting what they call “The Ozaki 8,” in which they plan Robin Hood-esque extreme sports heists across every continent.

“It’s a series of eight ordeals that honor the forces of nature,” says Utah, who’s in danger of getting in too deep with the crew. They’ll then use the booty from the scores to “follow Ozaki’s teachings.” (If you feel ignorant for not knowing who Ozaki is, you shouldn’t: Warner Bros. has confirmed to us that the character, Onno Ozaki, and his teachings are pure fiction created for the film.)

“So it’s about enlightenment?” an FBI instructor played by Delroy Lindo asks. “Exactly,” Utah shoots back.

In the immortal words of Keanu Reeves: “Whoa.”

Point Break, which also stars Ray Winstone and Teresa Palmer, opens Christmas Day.
