Director Paul Feig has given us a first look at the new Ghostbusters action figures, and they’re cool enough to cause mass hysteria. On Twitter today, the director posted what he described as prototypes of Mattel’s 6-inch Ghostbuster toys, which render stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon in their uniforms (complete with old-school Ghostbusters logo on the arms) and ghost-blasting proton packs. Granted, they’re just prototypes, but these appear to be some high-quality action figures: detailed, articulated, posable, and definitely a departure from most of Mattel’s female toys (which include the Barbie, American Girl, and Monster High dolls). Best of all, at a time when fans are literally begging for toys of Avengers’ Black Widow and Star Wars’ Rey, Ghostbusters plans to flood the market with merch. According to Feig’s Twitter, products featuring the four starring ladies have been “in production for months,” including “over 20 figures in all sizes and styles” from Mattel, Funko, Diamond Select, and Lego. It’s enough to make us smile as big as this young Ghostbusters fan on Instagram. The new film hits theaters on July 15.
