Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien' May Disregard Last Two Sequels

David Fincher might not like this.
Neill Blomkamp, who is working on a script for a new film in the Alien franchise, said that his sequel will disregard the events of 1992’s Alien 3 and 1997’s Alien: Resurrection.

"I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of Aliens,” Blomkamp told Sky Movies. “So it’s Alien, Aliens and then this movie.”
Sigourney Weaver, who is set to reprise her role as Ripley in the film, said she thinks Blomkamp is the right person to wrap up the saga. “I would love to take Ripley out of orbiting around in space and give a proper finish to what was such an excellent story,” she said.

Alien 3, which marked Fincher’s directorial debut, and Alien: Resurrection, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet from a script by Joss Whedon, are not generally well-regarded by fans of the sci-fi franchise. Alien (1979) was helmed by Ridley Scott, while James Cameron took the reins for Aliens (1986).
Weaver can next be seen in Blomkamp’s film Chappie, hitting theaters March 6. Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel and Hugh Jackman also star.
