'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' Reveals a Rainy, Smoky First Poster

Nearly a decade after it first hit the big screen, audiences are finally going to get another trip to the seedy, blood-and-rain-soaked streets of Frank Miller’s “Sin City.”

Miller, who created and illustrated the graphic novel series, is re-teaming with Robert Rodriguez for “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.” This new anthology movie draws from Miller’s novels, but it also contains new stories created just for the film. And like the first, it’s being filmed almost entirely on green-screen stages, with the backgrounds and stark black-and-white imagery created digitally.

The second film brings back several stars from the original, including Bruce Willis as Det. John Hartigan and Mickey Rourke as the misunderstood bruiser Marv (even though both characters died in the first movie). Femme fatales Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, and Jamie King also return.

Joining the cast are Josh Brolin as Dwight (the part played by Clive Owen in the original), and Eva Green plays the seductive Ava Lord, the titular dame for whom some might, in fact, kill. Green also stars in 2014’s “300: Rise of an Empire,” which is another sequel to a movie based on a Frank Miller book. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, and Jeremy Piven are also new to the cast, with Dennis Haysbert taking on the role of Manute, originally played by the late Michael Clarke Duncan.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" will drop into theaters on Aug. 22, 2014.
