NBC has put in development 29, a high-concept comedy about three generations of women.  The single-camera comedy, based on Adena Halpern’s book, hails from The McCarthys creator Brian Gallivan, Sony TV and studio-based David Entertainment.

Written by Gallivan, 29 centers on Ellie Jerome, a young-at-heart 75-year-old who feels she has more in common with her 29-year-old granddaughter, Lucy, than her 55-year-old daughter, Barbara.  When she finds herself confronted with a cake full of candles, Ellie wishes more than anything that she could be twenty-nine again… and gets her wish.

Gallivan executive produces with David Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox.

Davis Entertainment originally explored the book as a movie, with 20th Century Fox acquiring the rights to 29 six years ago for John Davis to produce.

This is the fourth broadcast sale for Davis Entertainment, which also has four series on the air. 29 joins comedy Start Up, starring and directed by Zach Braff and written by Matt Tarses, which has a put pilot commitment at ABC, a David Shore/McG action drama at Fox loosely based on I Spy, also a put pilot, and comedy Twinsters at ABC from Happy Endings creator David Caspe.

In addition to creating and executive producing the CBS/Sony TV comedy series The McCarthys, Gallivan worked on the studio’s ABC series Happy Endings and wrote the comedy Hail Mary, which went to pilot at ABC last season with Casey Wilson starring. He is repped by UTA.
