Oh, Bondage! The 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Trailer Is Here

Mr. Grey will see you now. Thursday morning, Today premiered the first trailer for next year’s Fifty Shades of Grey, the obscenely anticipated adaptation of E.L. James 2011 best-selling book about a sadomasochistic romance, which has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. The big-screen version — directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) — stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, an innocent college student who lands an interview with Christian Grey, an impossibly rich and handsome corporate titan with very specific tastes in the bedroom (or, as we see a hint of in the trailer, in his very special Red Room of Pain.)

The clip seems designed to hit all the book’s pleasure points, giving glimpses of Grey’s helicopter, that steamy elevator, and the Grey family dinner that turns naughty. The montage is all set to an aching, sultry version of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love,” which the singer re-recorded for the movie. Will the novel’s most ardent fans find satisfaction? The first trailer, at least, seems a solid tease.
