Watch Our Video About Movie Moms Whose Age Doesn’t Add Up

All it takes is love to make a family — and in these cases above, a little movie magic. Reese Witherspoon’s Wild is the latest film to feature a mother and child played by actors who are very close in age; Laura Dern is 47, while her onscreen daughter Witherspoon is 38. That’s a similar age difference to Melissa McCarthy and Allison Janney — only eleven years apart — who played daughter and mother earlier this year in Tammy.

In this video, Yahoo Movies highlights the most egregious examples of movie moms who are practically the same age as the actors playing their children including Winona Ryder, 43, and Zachary Quinto, 37, in Star Trek. (Don’t even get us started on Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie in Alexander.) Reese Witherspoon has even been on the other side of the equation, playing a mother to Robert Pattinson (ten years her junior) in later-deleted scenes from Vanity Fair…which must have made things a little awkward when he was cast as her love interest in Water for Elephants a few years later.
