Michael Jackson's son Prince Michael took the stand Wednesday in the negligence lawsuit filed by the pop star's mother Katherine against concert promoter AEG Live.
Prince Michael, 16, told jurors that his father was excited about going back on tour before his death but that he wasn't happy with terms of the ill-fated "This Is It" shows. In the testimony -- which came just one day after the fourth anniversary of Michael Jackson's death -- Prince Michael indicated that his father wanted more time to rehearse and had several tense phone conversations with promoters that sometimes ended with his father in tears.
"'They're going to kill me,'" Prince Michael quoted his father as saying in one conversation, but he did not elaborate further during his testimony. He wore a black suit in the courtroom with a dark grey tie with his long brown hair tucked behind his ears.
Prince Michael and Jackson's other children -- Paris and Blanket -- are plaintiffs along with the pop star's mother in the lawsuit, which seeks $40 billion in damages from AEG. The plaintiffs allege that the company was negligent when it hired Dr. Conrad Murray to oversee Michael Jackson's medical care as the King of Pop prepared for a series of comeback concerts.
The pop superstar's eldest son began his testimony by showing jurors roughly 15 minutes of private family photos and home videos and at times appeared to fight back tears. He also described growing up on Neverland Ranch and showed the jury videos of the property's many amenities.
He also told the panel his father was always working and traveling the world, but that he and his siblings had no idea he was an international superstar. "We always listened to his music, but we never knew how famous he was."
Prince Michael is the first Jackson family member to testify during the trial, which is now in its ninth week. Attorneys have said that TJ Jackson -- who serves a co-guardian to Prince and his siblings -- and Taj Jackson are also expected to take the witness stand. They are the sons of Michael's brother Tito.
