'Steve Jobs' First Look: Michael Fassbender as the Apple Cofounder

Michael Fassbender on the set of Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs was famous for having lots of big ideas, so it’s no surprise that our first glimpse of Michael Fassbender as Apple’s late cofounder features the Oscar-nominated actor looking lost in thought. Fassbender is currently in the Bay Area shooting the Aaron Sorkin-written, Danny Boyle-directed biopic Steve Jobs, and a lucky photographer snapped a picture of him in character, complete with Jobs’ 1980s hairstyle and wardrobe.

The real Steve Jobs in 1984

Steve Jobs has been in the news quite a bit recently, as a revolving door of directors and actors initially came and went from the project, including David Fincher, Christian Bale, and Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie also switched studios, moving from its original home at Sony to Universal. The infamous Interview-related Sony hack that occurred in December further complicated matters, as leaked e-mails revealed the behind-the-scenes drama between studio head Amy Pascal and the film’s producer, Scott Rudin, that led to Sony losing the movie. (Fassbender’s name comes up in those e-mails, with the participants praising his acting ability, but questioning his marketability.)

But the film’s outlook grew brighter when Boyle and Fassbender officially committed to Steve Jobs, which Sorkin has said will tell Jobs’ story by focusing on the launch of of three key Apple products. Several other A-list cast members are in the mix as well, including Seth Rogen and Kate Winslet as Jobs’ early collaborators Steve Wozniak and Joanna Hoffman respectively. Look for the movie to hit theaters sometime in 2016.
