'How I Met Your Mother' Creators Set Hotel Comedy at Fox

The Hollywood Reporter

Fox is ready to check in to Open Arms.

The network is teaming with How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas for hotel comedy Open Arms, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The single-camera comedy, which landed at Fox with a script commitment, revolves around Howie and Joy, who realize that they can't have a baby and instead take their nest egg and buy the Vermont inn they visit annually - only to quickly realize they're in over their heads.

Peter Warren (Happyland, The History of Us) will pen the script and executive produce alongside Bays and Thomas. The comedy hails from Sony Pictures Television, where Bays and Thomas are under a rich overall deal. Open Arms also marks a key outside studio buy for Fox. This season, 10 of its 11 new series are produced in-house by 20th Century Fox TV; only Lethal Weapon hails from outside studio Warner Bros. Television.

This marks the latest sale this development season for Bays and Thomas. The duo also has a family comedy based on the life of comedian Chris Distefano set up at CBS with a hefty pilot-production commitment. The pair also has CBS comedy My Time/Your Time being redeveloped after going to pilot last season.

Open Arms marks the latest hotel-themed comedy in the works. HBO went straight to series with Room 104, a hotel anthology comedy series from Jay and Mark Duplass, and TBS has The Guest Book, a hotel comedy anthology from Greg Garcia.

Bays and Thomas are repped by UTA and 3 Arts; Warren is with CAA and Manage-ment.
