Met Costume Gala 2012: Best Dressed Stars

The Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala is known for its impressive celebrity guest list and Monday night's bash, which celebrated Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli, was the most star-studded one yet.

And while the red carpet was a sea of stunning designer gowns, a few A-listers stood out in truly memorable looks.

Jessica Alba wore the night's most popular -- and flashiest hue -- stepping out in a gold Michael Kors gown.

Scarlett Johansson went all out in a strapless Dolce & Gabbana gown with a tulle mermaid skirt and embroidered bodice.

Newlywed Carey Mulligan, who was one of the event's chairwomen, dazzled in a sequined silver-and-gold Prada halter design.

Nina Dobrev made her first Met Gala appearance in a black and gold silk chiffon Donna Karan Atelier gown with an elegant train and accessorized with H. Stern earrings.

Beyonce showed off her incredible post-baby body in a sheer black embroidered Givenchy Haute Couture gown with a purple ombre feathered train.

Emma Stone wore a custom red Lanvin above-the-knee dress hand embroidered with crystal flowers.
