Meryl Streep is a strong-willed woman with a propensity for popping prescription pills in the second trailer for “August: Osage County,” director John Wells’ adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer-winning play.
Streep, a three-time Oscar winner, plays the matriarch of the dysfunctional Weston family, who are all brought back together — for better or worse, but mostly worse — in the Midwest house they grew up in to deal with the death of their father, played by Sam Shepard.
Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Bennedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney, Margo Martindale, Misty Upham, Julianne Nicholson and Abigail Breslin make up the rest of the all-star cast of the film, which TheWrap‘s Steve Pond noted received uproarious laughter and applause from audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival world premiere on Monday.
Letts adapted the screenplay himself; George Clooney and Grant Heslov are among the producers of the film.
The Weinstein Company is releasing “August: Osage County” on Christmas Day.
