Meow We're Talking: 'Super Troopers 2' Lauches Indiegogo Campaign

Super Troopers 2 is one of those sequels that’s been “in the works” so long we’ve begun to wonder if it was all just one big comedy bit. We’ve seen various updates over the years about the possibility of a follow-up to the 2001 cult classic about five screwball Vermont state troopers starring the comedy troupe Broken Lizard. In 2006, a prequel was announced. Then in 2009, we heard it was going to be a sequel, which had a finished script and was just in need of financing.

Since then, all has been quiet on the northeastern front. Until today at least, when Broken Lizard members Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske took to Reddit to announce an Indiegogo campaign to raise $2 million for production on Super Troopers 2.

As they explained on Indiegogo, Broken Lizard got the all-clear from studio Fox Searchlight which will distribute the movie, as long as they can fund it themselves. “So this is how it works: if we’re able to raise at least $2,000,000 in the next month, we’ll be able to get to work on a barebones version of Super Troopers 2 this summer,” they wrote.

Perks include the usual offerings like scripts, digital downloads, and signed posters for modest contributions. But donate big and there’s some serious booty involved. For $4,000, you get to name a character in the movie. For $15,000, you get to attend a baseball game with the guys. For $25,000, they’ll be groomsmen in your wedding. (This is not a joke.) And for $35,000 you’ll get to keep an actual patrol car from the movie.

“We’ve got some big stuff in the script, and if we’re able to raise enough money, you’ll get to see all of it,” they wrote on Indiegogo. “The more we raise, the more amazing stuff we can put in the movie. More action, more cameos, more shenanigans, and fine, more Farva.”

You can probably expect another round of the “Meow game,” too, which has lived on recent years through the occasional interview at with funny athletes. As Broken Lizard’s campaign calls out front and center: The time is meow. Contribute here.
