Dane DeHaan Is Creepy as Green Goblin in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Freaky! Not only is Spider-Man’s nemesis Green Goblin dangerous, he’s creepy-looking as well, as evidenced by this first photo of Dane DeHaan as the costumed villain in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”

The 28-year-old actor is dirtied up for the part — his skin appears to be painted an ominous camo green tone. His reddish-tinged hair stands up straight, he has a pointy nose, some seriously funky teeth, and his lips are desperately in need of some ChapStick. He looks downright diseased.

And that sinister smile gives us flashbacks to another unforgettable supervillain: The Joker.

The menacing look is a departure from his counterpart, Peter Parker’s BFF Harry Osborn. In previously released photos, DeHaan is seen wearing a three-piece suit and tie (with tie pin!) to play preppy Harry. His straight locks are styled across his forehead, and he’s wearing some cool shades. And his pearly whites definitely are not rotten.

DeHaan’s Green Goblin certainly has a darker, less shiny appearance than the character did in the previous iteration of “Spider-Man” movies. In the first film of that franchise, Willem DaFoe had a much more robotic, metallic interpretation that lacked much human articulation, while later in the series, James Franco dressed in black and looked more like a ninja than a science experiment gone wrong.

In the comic book versions, Double G is often seen sporting a purple outfit complete with boots, gloves, and a stocking-like cap – not exactly the most threatening of costumes. Thankfully, it looks like DeHaan is sticking to his signature color, green.

In “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which hits theaters on May 2, Andrew Garfield’s Spidey will have his hands full with formidable opponents. In addition to Green Goblin, he’ll be slinging webs at Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Paul Giamatti’s Rhino in what promises to be quite the battle royale.
