Mark Ruffalo Tugs at the Heartstrings in 'Infinitely Polar Bear' (Exclusive Trailer)

Mark Ruffalo is cornering the market on compassion these days. His recent string of sympathetic roles include an amiable Olympic wrestling coach in Foxcatcher (for which he earned an Oscar nomination) and an outspoken HIV-AIDS activist who nurses his dying boyfriend in HBO’s Emmy-winning Normal Heart. Now he stars as a dad suffering from bipolar disorder in the upcoming drama Infinitely Polar Bear, as seen in this exclusive U.S. trailer premiere.

The 47-year-old actor, also known as the Hulk in the Avengers series, plays opposite Zoe Saldana, as his wife, and newcomer child actors Imogene Wolodarsky and Ashley Aufderheide. The ’70s-era film, by first-time director Maya Forbes (who wrote Monsters vs. Aliens), debuted at Sundance last year to warm reviews.

Fun fact: Keir Dullea, star of Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 sci-fi masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey, also appears.

Infinitely Polar Bear opens in select theaters June 19.
