Important Updates on the Pet Rat Margot Robbie Got From Jared Leto

Breaking: There are more updates on Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie’s pet rat from the new story in Elle magazine.
Update number one: It’s still alive, for which the rat can thank the 25-year-old Australian actress’s dedication to her character. Last month, we learned that Robbie — who plays Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC-Warner Bros. film — received the rodent along with a love letter from her Suicide Squad co-star Jared Leto, who plays the new punk The Joker. Harley is Joker’s very dedicated girlfriend, a fact that spared the little furry guy’s life when many of the film’s crew suggested killing it.
“If Harley got something from Joker,” Robbie reasoned to Elle, “she’d probably cherish it.“

Update number two: The rat’s name is Rat Rat. This doubles down on the practice of animals using their species as last names (see: Mouse, Mickey and Bunny, Bugs), making Rat Rat a creature of tradition. Expect to see a lot of cosplayers carrying a stuffed Rat Rat at next year’s Comic-Con; with more than a year before Suicide Squad hits theaters on Aug. 5, 2016, Harley Quinn was by far the most popular costume on the floor in San Diego last week.

And update number three: Rat Rat is a vegan now, as he (or she!) lives on a diet of berries from Whole Foods.
