Mance Media Launching 4KUniverse Channel

Mance Media is launching 4KUniverse as an entertainment channel aimed at consumers seeking programming in the growing 4K Ultra High Definition format.

The Los Angeles-based service, which has the support of global satellite operators SES and AsiaSat, will be available to cable, Internet Protocol TV and MSO subscribers at a cost of $5.99 a month on YouTube and Vimeo.

4K Ultra High Definition offers four times the resolution of HD and includes high dynamic range, which produces brilliant highlights, vibrant colors and greater contrast on compatible displays. Sales of 4K TVs amounted to about 2 million last year, according to data from DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group.

“Today is a special day and I’m happy to announce the launch of 4KUniverse, a new multiplatform brand that makes 4K Ultra HD content more globally accessible,” said founder and CEO Matthew Mancinelli. “Having strategic partners on board like satellite companies SES and AsiaSat allows our channel to enjoy the largest possible audience and adds immediate value at launch.”

Programming includes the documentary “Circles of Life: Iceland 4K,” directed by Reinhard Kungel; Marc Brener’s feature film “The Rumperbutts 4K,” starring Mates of State, Arian Moayed, Vanessa Ray and Josh Brener; time-lapse documentary “Timescapes 4K,” directed by Tom Lowe; F.C. Rabbath’s family fantasy film “Scarlet’s Witch 4K”; the nature documentary “Grand Canyon 4K,” directed by Roman Khomlyak; and the Erik Peter Carlson drama “The Toy Soldiers.”

Mance Media said it is actively acquiring additional 4K Ultra HD programming. The channel will make its international market debut in Cannes at MIPTV in April.
