'Magnificent Seven' Trailer: Seeking Righteousness (But Revenge Will Do)

The first trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven, the remake of the 1960 film that was itself a redo of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, brims over with the elements one would expect: It’s got imagery of vast skies and dusty small town roads that are pure American West. It’s got plenty of gunfire, regular fire, explosions, frenetic horseback riding, and pursuits of vengeance.

Of course, it also features the seven shifty outlaws attempting to protect the residents of Rose Creek from Peter Sarsgaard’s villainous Bartholomew Bogue. That septet of notably ethnically diverse gunslingers are: Martin Sensmeier, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Byung-Hun Lee, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington, who re-team here with their Training Day director, and, last but not least, Chris Pratt, who winks and poses in this teaser in a way that screams: “Are you sure you don’t want to cast me as Indiana Jones at some point?”

The film rides into theaters on Sept. 23.
