Mads Mikkelsen Reveals Too Much About His 'Rogue One' Role in TV Interview

Spoiler alert if you don’t want to know anything else about Rogue One.

There is a rule when it comes to talking about Star Wars movies before they have been released: Don’t talk about them. Even Force-powerful babies who are still gestating in the womb know this.

Mads Mikkelsen knows it, too, which is why in this interview with Britain’s Sky News, he initially tells a reporter he can’t offer very much information about his role in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. (Watch our video about it above.)

“I can say absolutely nothing,” he says, while still staying on Lucasfilm message and saying nothing. “I can, but then I’d have to kill you and all the audiences.”

But THEN —mere seconds later — he says the following: “Felicity [Jones] is playing this lovely and strong woman. And I play her father.” He then pauses and says, “That was too much, I’m sorry.”

The reporter notes that everyone in the Sky One gallery just gasped when he spoke those words. And at that point, it’s clear just by looking into Mikkelsen’s eyes that he’s thinking: “Oh, crud. I am so fired.”

The reporter — perhaps sensing weakness in Mikkelsen at this point — then asks if he can say whether or not Darth Vader is in Rogue One, but Mikkelsen is smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

Then he starts talking about Doctor Strange and some work he’s doing with a bank and, honestly, no one even heard the rest of this interview because they were all just sitting there going, “Did he really just say he’s Jyn Erso’s dad?”

Is it the end of the world for Star Wars fans to know this in advance? Not at all. But it does prove that, no matter how many non-disclosure agreements are signed and Jedi mind tricks are performed on actors who appear in the Star Wars franchise, sometimes they’ll still accidentally reveal details that were meant to stay under wraps.
