This Is the 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Stunt That Freaked Everyone Out During Filming
Director George Miller has always pushed the envelope when it comes to executing daring, practical stunts in his Mad Max movies. The just-released Fury Road continues that tradition, and according to the actors involved, there was one stunt in particular that got a little hairy, even for a Mad Max film.
It was the moment where Max (Tom Hardy) falls off the speeding rig and dangles upside down, head inches from the ground, as Furiosa (Charlize Theron, wearing a prosthetic arm) and escapees Capable (Riley Keough) and The Dag (Abbey Lee) clutch onto his ankles, propping him up from certain death.
“[Tom’s] head is [inches] off the ground, and he’s just hanging there,” Theron told Yahoo Movies (you can watch the interview above). “I’m like, 'Dude, you are awesome. If that was me, I would so not be cool with this.’ And if he was gonna go, I was gonna go with him. That stunt was scary for me.”

Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) says he was fine with the stunt, but it scared the daylights out of his 7-year-old son, Louis. “George said to him, 'Don’t worry, your daddy’s being held upside down by a couple of wires, Louie. They can hold a grand piano.’” Hardy recalled. “And he said, 'But what if they snap?’ 'Well, Louie, I suppose he’d go under the wheels.’ And that was that.”
Just another day on the set of a Mad Max movie.
