Lydia McLaughlin is one health-conscious mom! When her kids are hungry for an afternoon snack, the Real Housewives of Orange County star doesn't raid her pantry for chips or cookies to feed sons Stirling, 2, and Maverick, 4. Instead, the busy mom makes her own healthy snacks to encourage her boys to choose more sustainable food options.
"We make smoothies and put spinach in them," McLaughlin, 32, tells Us Weekly. "That's a good way to get your kids to eat their greens and you can freeze them. We make them into lollipops or popsicles."
While the Orange County, Calif., mom keeps her sons' eating habits top of mind, she does realize that they're growing boys -- and kids at that -- so when they want to indulge, McLaughlin allows it in moderation. "We went to the mall and they had Wetzel's Pretzels. They're children, but they've never had fast food in their whole life," she tells Us.
Mom's idea of a healthy splurge? Chocolate covered almonds. "I have chocolate every day," says McLaughlin of her favorite snack -- eaten in small quantities. "Maybe that's why I don't want to have a huge cheesecake on Saturdays because I've been feeding that urge [for something sweet in moderation] daily."
