John Green's 'Looking for Alaska' Adaptation Finally Lands Director
Electrick Children helmer Rebecca Thomas has been tapped to direct Paramount’s Looking For Alaska, the long-in-development adaptation of the John Green novel of the same name.
Green revealed the hiring of Thomas on his Twitter account.
The book has been adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who also scripted the adaptation of Green’s The Fault in Our Stars.
Producers are Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, Mark Waters and Jessica Tuchinsky. The story is set at the Culver Creek Boarding School and centers on Alaska Young, the reckless girl who’s the object of affection for most males at the school.
Paramount picked up the rights to Looking for Alaska in 2005 and set up the project with Waters and Tuchinsky after outbidding several other studios. At that point, Josh Schwartz was attached to direct.
Fox scored an outsize success with The Fault in Our Stars, with more than $300 million in worldwide grosses. The next adaptation of a Green novel, Paper Towns, opens July 24 and carries elevated expectations.
Thomas is repped by CAA, Susan Solomon of Principato-Young and Bruce Gellman of Hansen, Jacobson.
