Lorde’s ominous-yet-catchy new track Yellow Flicker Beat hints at just how serious The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is going to get. Written for the movie, the addictively morose tune is the first announced from the sure to be a star-studded track listing of the upcoming film’s soundtrack.
Lorde performed a brooding cover of Tears for Fears’s Everybody Wants to Rule the World for last year’s Catching Fire. As the 17-year-old New Zealand songstress reclaims a place in the illustrious pantheon of Hunger Games movie music, we wonder if other potential repeaters will follow suit — namely, Patti Smith, Ellie Goulding, Christina Aguilera, and — ahem, Jennifer Lawrence’s new boyfriend’s band — Coldplay.
