Kurt Russell Talks ‘Tango & Cash’ Reunion (of Sorts) in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

Yahoo Movies was at Comic-Con this year, and we had the opportunity to chat with some of the cast and crew of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. One of the bigger stories to come out of San Diego was the confirmation that the sequel will have Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone in its cast. When our pal Kevin Polowy chatted with the film’s director, James Gunn, he pointed out something pretty awesome about the two icons being in the film.

“It’s a Tango & Cash reunion,” Polowy told Gunn. “You got Kurt Russell and Sly Stallone.” “We got Kurt Russell who plays Ego, Peter Quill’s father, and then we have Sly Stallone playing an unnamed character,” Gunn replied. When asked if they would be together onscreen at any point, Gunn played coy. “Kurt’s one of the stars of the movie and Sly is a supporting cast member at this time,” he answered.

Russell himself was … not coy at all. “He and I didn’t work together,” Russell revealed. “But he and I are in the same movie. I did see Sly about a week after, not even a week, after he had been working. … It just was great. I adore him, so it’s always great to see him, and I love that he’s doing what he’s doing in this movie. He’s great.”

So, there you go. Guardians will have Tango and it will have Cash, but it won’t have Tango and Cash. Such is life.
