Key & Peele Outline Plan to Take Over Hollywood

Anyone who’s watched Comedy Central’s stellar sketch-show Key & Peele knows that its titular stars — Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele — are big movie fans: Now in its fourth season, Key & Peele have spoofed everything from overwrought revenge thrillers to post-apocalyptic sci-fi flicks. Now, in an interview with Entertainment Weeklythe duo give an update on all of their various in-the-works movie projects, including:

Police Academy

The two are producing a reboot of the beloved ’80s franchise, though it’s unclear whether they’ll be starring in the film, which is being written by The Mindy Project's Ike Barinholtz and Dave Stassen. “When we start working with the script and seeing it, we’ll make the decision,” Peele told Ew. “Is Key and Peele a distraction from Police Academy? We’ll figure it out. Either way, we’ll make the best call for the movie.”

A Substitute Teacher movie

Though there are countless Key & Peele characters worthy of the big-screen treatment, the first up will likely be Mr. Garvey, the combative substitute teacher known for his unique name-pronunciation skills. Two of the show’s staff writers are working a script for a film adaptation.

Untitled horror movie

Peele’s also developing a horror movie for Darko Entertainment, the production company of Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly. “I want to be essentially a thriller director,” he tells the magazine. “I’m a big fan of horror movies: Rosemary’s BabyStepford Wives—I’m sort of taking a lead from that genre of film. It’ll be, just, very cool.”

That’s not all:The pair announced last year that they’ll be writing and starring in a film for producer Judd Apatow, and separately, they’ve lined up roles in such films as Tomorrowland and Captain Underpants. Hopefully, that will still leave time for a five-film Hingle McCringleberry film franchise.
