Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence are combining their comedic talents for a new FX series.
Former "Frasier" star Grammer and "Martin" star Lawrence will co-star in a comedy for FX, about two two Chicago lawyers from vastly different backgrounds who unexpectedly meet in court on the worst day of their lives. Brought together by fate and greed, they develop a partnership and friendship, forcing each other to find the balance between the ethical and the unscrupulous in both their professional and personal lives.
Much like the deal that Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management" received from FX, the series has been given a 10-episode order, with the promise of 90 more episodes if it performs well in the ratings.
Lionsgate Television is producing the series, in association with Grammnet NH Productions and You Go Boy Productions. Grammer and Lawrence are also executive producing, as are Brian Sher, Stella Bulochnikov, Michael Green and Sam Maydew.
Bob Boyett ("Family Matters," "Perfect Strangers") and Robert Horn ("Designing Women," "Living Single") are writing the series.
"I am excited to be returning to TV and to be working with Kelsey," Lawrence, who has primarily been involved with movies since the end of his sitcom "Martin," said. "We have a great time together so I am looking forward to making a good show with a lot of laughs."
Grammer, who recently starred in the Starz political drama "Boss," added, "Martin is arguably one of the funniest men alive and after some success in drama I thought it might be time to try my hand at comedy. I am thrilled to have this extraordinary team show me the ropes. All kidding aside, I don't think a better bunch of talent exists; I am honored and blessed."
The 10/90 deal was struck between FX, Lionsgate Television and Debmar-Mercury.
