Jeremy Strong, Chris Chalk, Austin Hébert, Ephraim Sykes, Laz Alonso, Nathan Davis Jr., Malcolm David Kelley, Peyton Alex Smith, and Leon Thomas III have rounded out the cast in Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled film centered on the 1967 Detroit Riots.

They join previously-announced stars John Boyega, John Krasinski, Jason Mitchell, Anthony Mackie, Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole, Jack Reynor, Jacob Latimore, Joseph David-Jones, Algee Smith, Kaitlyn Dever, and Hannah Murray. Bigelow is directing the crime drama from an original screenplay by Mark Boal. She’s also producing with Boal, Annapurna’s Megan Ellison and Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson, with Greg Shapiro executive producing.

The pic, Bigelow’s 10th as a director, is currently in production. The film is being financed and produced by Annapurna Pictures.

The drama is set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five haunting summer days in 1967. The film explores systemic racism in urban Detroit. Although no studio is currently attached, a release date is being targeted for 2017, the 50th anniversary of the riots.

Strong was most recently seen co-starring in last year’s Oscar-nominated “The Big Short.” His previous work includes “The Judge,” “Selma,” “Lincoln,” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” which Bigelow also helmed. Strong is represented by WME and Mosaic.

Chalk currently stars on Fox’s “Gotham” as Lucius Fox. His past credits include “12 Years a Slave,” HBO’s “The Newsroom,” Showtime’s “Homeland,” and WGN’s “Underground.” Chalk is represented by Stone Manners Salners Agency and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Hébert has appeared in HBO’s “True Blood,” CBS’ “Vegas,” and opposite William Hurt and Emile Hirsch in the miniseries “Bonnie & Clyde.” His upcoming projects include Phillip Noyce’s “Above Suspicion” and “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” which opens in theaters on Friday. Hébert is represented by Abrams Artist Agency.

Sykes was an original cast member of the Tony Award-winning hit musical “Hamilton,” and was previously seen in HBO’s “Vinyl,” and NBC’s “Smash” and “30 Rock.” He will next appear in another NBC’s production — “Hairspray Live!” He is represented by CESD Talent and Silver Lining Entertainment.

Alonso’s past credits include “Avatar,” “Fast and Furious,” and “Mysteries of Laura.” He can next be seen in “Stranded,” which will be released in 2017. Alonso is represented by The Gersh Agency and Thruline Entertainment.

Davis Jr.’s past credits include “Criminal Minds,” “Glee,” and “The Soul Man.” He is represented by Luber Roklin Entertainment and Global Artists.

Best known as Walt on ABC’s hit drama “Lost,” Kelley’s past films include “You Got Served” and “Antwone Fisher.” He’s one half of the pop duo MKTO, and is represented by The ESI Network, Bridge and Tunnel Communications, and Amsel, Eisenstadt, Frazier & Hinojosa, Inc.
