Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani In Spirit Awards Tease: Making a Splash in Fashion?
The Film Independent Spirit Awards – the surfer dude cousin once-removed from the overachieving formal affair that is the Academy Awards – will be hosted this year by Saturday Night Live star/Ghostbuster Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani of HBO’s Silicon Valley. Based on the new promo (watch it above) for the low-key ceremony – held the day before the Oscars on the beach in Santa Monica – our hosts are under the impression that the Spirits will be a sun-soaked booze fest.
Having been to the Spirits, I can confirm that it is on a beach and there’s definitely plenty of accessible booze. But, depending on the weather, it can be chilly and windy. So if Nanjiani really plans to show up in that bathing suit, hopefully he’ll at least bring a fleece jacket, because he’ll probably need it.
