Kate Mara Still Hasn’t Seen ‘The Fantastic Four’

Like most of America, Kate Mara still has not seen the new Fantastic Four reboot, she tells The Times of London, and does not plan on doing so any time soon. (via Vulture.)

The difference, of course, is that the 32-year old actress was one of the stars of that ill-fated superhero flop, which made just $55 million in the United States when it opened in August.

Fantastic Four, which received just a 9% positive rating from critics on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, was plagued by myriad conflicts and controversies. Director Josh Trank reportedly locked horns with Fox executives and producer Simon Kinberg, and according to Entertainment Weekly, treated Mara — whom he supposedly never wanted to cast as the Invisible Woman Sue Storm — with cold indifference. Despite those reports, Mara insists that she enjoyed the process of working on the film.

“You don’t always have to learn some incredible life lesson when making a s—t movie. Sometimes it’s just what happens,” she said. “[Fantastic Four] was a tricky shoot but you know… When you know when you’re shooting it that a film isn’t going to be what you want it to be? That was not the case at all.“

That being said, Mara wasn’t all sunshine and roses about the experience. In particular, she called it “highly disappointing” that Trank dissed the film on Twitter the night before it opened. It’s also notable that, for all the fun she says she had on set, she let all those negative reviews make her “a little gun-shy” about seeing the movie and could only promise that she’d see it “eventually.”

It comes out on home video soon, so time will tell if she actually sticks to that vague plan.
