Kanye West Hospitalized, Placed on Psychiatric Hold

The Hollywood Reporter

Kanye West was hospitalized on Monday and put under observation at a Los Angeles-area hospital.

Los Angeles police responded to a medical welfare call around 1:20 p.m. local time, NBC News was first to report. There was no criminal activity and the decision to hospitalize West was made for his own health and safety.

A source tells Billboard that West has been suffering from exhaustion and sleep deprivation and went to the hospital of his own will and under the consultation of his physician.

He was reportedly taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Without confirming West's identity, Los Angeles police told the Associated Press the patient was placed on a psychiatric hold.

The news follows a bizarre weekend for the hip-hop superstar, which included rants endorsing President-elect Donald Trump, calling out Beyonce and Jay Z, cutting a concert short and canceling the remainder of the 21 dates of his Saint Pablo Tour.

West also flooded his Instagram account with 99 caption-less fashion photos.

Following the news on Monday, West's wife, Kim Kardashian, skipped her scheduled appearance at the Angel Ball in New York City, which would have been her first public appearance since she was robbed at gunpoint in a Paris hotel.

According to the New York Post's Page Six, Kardashian landed in New York then turned around after learning West was suffering from a medical complaint. A rep for Kardashian declined to comment.

Kardashian's sisters Khloe and Kourtney and her mother, Kris Jenner, attended the black-tie fundraiser on Monday night. When asked how the couple was doing, Jenner simply smiled and said, "They're good," according to the AP.

Billboard has reached out to West's camp for comment and will update the story as details become available.
