Justice League: Jeremy Irons Returning As Alfred

These are not the easiest times for DC fans, in the wake of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.’

On top of that film’s somewhat divided reactions from critics and audiences, we have news of ‘The Flash’ losing its director, rumours ‘Aquaman’ may soon have a similar problem, and murmurs of major behind-the-scenes strife on the in-production ‘Justice League.’

Even so, while the DC Extended Universe hasn’t gotten off to the smoothest start, we can assume that for the forseeable future it will continue - starting, of course, with ‘Justice League.’

As such, it’s nice to note that one of the best new introductions from ‘Batman V Superman,’ Jeremy Irons as Bruce Wayne’s butler and confidant Alfred Pennyworth, is said to be returning.

Showbiz 411 reportedly got confirmation of this direct from Irons himself, although no quote is provided. It’s hardly unexpected news, but good to know nonetheless.

He joins returning ‘Batman V Superman’ stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s Flash and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg getting a proper introduction.

Amber Heard will also be introduced as Hera, whilst JK Simmons joins as Commissioner Gordon, and Willem Defoe is on board in an as-yet unspecified role.

Irons is the third big screen Alfred, following on from Michael Caine in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, and the late Michael Gough in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher movies.

2017 will see Ralph Fiennes added to that list, as he will voice Alfred in ‘The Lego Batman Movie.’

The DC Extended Universe continues with ‘Suicide Squad,’ in cinemas 5 August. ‘Wonder Woman’ will follow in June 2017, with ‘Justice League Part 1′ arriving that November.
