Joss Whedon Teases Even More To-Be-Revealed Characters in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Following the release of the latest TV spot for Avengers: Age of Ultron that re-introduced the superhero team, writer-director Joss Whedon has teased that they won’t be the only superheroes showing up in the movie.

At the end of an interview with Marvel’s Lorraine Cink, Whedon was asked whether fans can expect characters who haven’t been teased for the movie to show up at any point. “Will we be seeing Marvel characters who aren’t yet in the preview photos? Are we going to be seeing other Marvel characters that we’ve seen in other films or other parts of the universe?” asked Cink, to which Whedon answered simply: “Yes.”

This might simply refer to the presence of Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter in the movie — their names appear on the poster released last month, although neither have been seen in any footage or images from the movie to date — although it could also be seen as adding to the speculation that Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther will make an early debut in the movie, ahead of his official first appearance in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

(It’s worth noting that we also know that Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba are going to be showing up in the movie, as well. Yes, this apparently will be a very busy movie.)

Elsewhere in the same interview, Whedon talked about what newcomers Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, respectively) will bring to the second Avengers movie.

"It was really important for me to have people who would change the game, emotionally and stylistically," said Whedon. "Their powers are completely different [from the existing Avengers’] and, through them, we get to see things differently. When we’re at speed with him, we’re going fast, we’re going slow; it’s not like we’re trying to do some enormous slow-guy set piece, it’s just something we never had license to do in the first movie. I never want to get so stylistically arch that you’re pulled out of what you’re seeing, but at the same time, I wanted to shoot something that was some kind of poetic and strange."

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released May 1. Watch the newly released interview from Marvel below.
