Josh Hutcherson Weighs in on One Direction Split, Does Jennifer Lawrence Impression, and Answers More ‘Things We’ve Always Wondered’

Josh Hutcherson has been making movies since 2003, but it’s The Hunger Games that pushed him into celebrity-frenzy territory. Now, with the series’ end looming (Mockingjay — Part 2 opens Nov. 20), the 22-year-old looks to make the leap from love interest to leading man. That begins with Escobar: Paradise Lost, a gritty thriller in which he plays Nick, a Canadian surfer in Colombia whose romance with a local (Hutcherson’s real-life girlfriend, Claudia Traisac) thrusts him into the seedy world of infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar (Benicio Del Toro).

In our latest episode of “Things We’ve Always Wondered,” which you can watch above, Hutcherson talked about Del Toro’s intimidation factor and how be buffed up to play Nick (the food lover had to cut out the Pop Tarts and pizza). He also answered some decidedly left-field fan questions, like one from hutcherstubble on Tumblr who wanted to gauge his reaction to pop star Zayn Malik’s exit from his group One Direction. “I think it’s a travesty for all the fans,” Hutcherson answered in earnest. “I’m not really a purveyor of their music so much, so for me I think I’m going to be OK, but I feel the hurt for the millions of people that are going through that.”

Hutcherson said he can’t get through a single interview promoting Escobar without someone bringing up The Hunger Games, and since we wouldn’t want to break that streak, asked him for his best Jennifer Lawrence impression. Let’s just say his stab at mimicking his friend and co-star is more about substance over style.
