Josh Boone Teases Possible Characters in ‘X-Men: The New Mutants’

It’s becoming increasingly popular to release little breadcrumbs of upcoming projects on social media. Josh Boone jumped on that bandwagon recently and posted a set of illustrations, created by famed Marvel illustrator Bill Sienkiewicz, that may be giving fans a sneak peek at the characters in “X-Men: The New Mutants,” using the hashtag #newmutants.

Movie-goers are already familiar with the characters in the previous “X-Men” movies, like Wolverine, Rogue, Mystique, Cyclops, etc. If Boone’s teases are any indication, “The New Mutants” will include lesser-known characters. Judging by Boone’s series of Instagram photos, the film could contain the following characters: Magik (aka Illyana Rasputin), Wolfsbane (aka Rahne Sinclair), Mirage (aka Danielle Moonstar, a Cheyenne mutant), Cannonball (Sam Guthrie), Sunspot (Roberto da Costa – a Brazilian mutant) and Warlock.

“Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams is rumored to be attached to the project, possibly embodying Wolfsbane — a Scottish mutant girl who can transform into a wolf. Given that her character’s house sigil on “Game of Thrones” is a dire wolf and Arya Stark has been called “wolf girl” on the show, it seems pretty fitting.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Williams gave a little insight on her relation to the project.

“I can’t say much about it at all, but I would absolutely love to be a part of it, [and] to be a part of the Marvel family,” said Williams. “‘New Mutants’ looks absolutely incredible and I’ve always loved the idea of spinoffs and [director] Joshua Boone is incredibly talented. So, yeah, sign me up.”
