Jon Hamm Reveals Surprising In-Flight Triple Feature That Made Him Crack Up and Then Cry

Next time you’re flying first class and you hear someone alternately laughing out loud and then sobbing like a mess, it might be Jon Hamm. The Mad Men alum let Yahoo Movies know how he first discovered the Minions of Despicable Me fame (and their new standalone film, Minions, to which Hamm lends his voice) when he revealed his very surprising selection of films to watch at 30,000 feet.

“I saw [Despicable Me] on a plane, and I was that guy on the plane with headphones on who’s laughing way too loud,” Hamm said in our interview, which you can watch in the video above. “To the point where people are like, OK, I hope you’re watching something funny. Because if you’re not, you’re just a crazy person.’”

Hamm said he followed up the laughter by watching “the most sad, hardcore documentary about death” — and by that he’s referring to Joshua Oppenheimer’s terrifying 2012 doc, The Act of Killing, about the Indonesian killings of 1965-66. “And I was weeping. And the stewardess comes over like, ‘Are you OK? You’ve had a very wide range of emotions from like Kansas to Nevada.’”

“And then I watched Frozen and I was OK again.”

So there you have it — Jon Hamm’s in-flight triple bill consisted of Despicable Me, The Act of Killing, and Frozen. Follow his lead if you ever want to worry your flight attendant.

Minions, which features Hamm as Herb Overkill, the inventor husband to Sandra Bullock’s celebrity villain Scarlett Overkill, opens everywhere July 10. Watch the trailer:
