Johnny Depp’s friends ‘begged him’ not to marry Amber Heard, according to a stunning profile of the actor in Rolling Stone magazine.

Depp wed the 32-year-old actress following a whirlwind romance in 2015, but the marriage had ended by 2017 amid accusations of heavy drinking and domestic violence on Depp’s part.

“Depp’s inner circle had begged him to not wed Heard or to at least obtain a prenup. Depp ignored his loved ones’ advice. And there were whispers that Depp’s recreational drug and alcohol use were crippling him,” the article claims.

It’s also said that Depp fell out with his sister Christi, long the manager of his day-to-day affairs, over his relationship with Heard, and marrying her without a prenuptial agreement.

One associate of Depp told the magazine: “He cut himself off from the only people looking out for him.”

Depp has always denied the allegations of domestic abuse, with the couple releasing a statement at the time of their divorce which said that their relationship was ‘intensely passionate and at times volatile but always bound by love’.

However, Depp also spoke of his despair in recent times, following his divorce from Heard and his legal issues with his former management, who he is suing, alleging they mismanaged his business affairs and have left him broke.

His management counterclaim that he frittered his own money away on a lavish lifestyle, and was responsible for his own actions.

“I was as low as I believe I could have gotten,” Depp said. “The next step was, ‘You’re going to arrive somewhere with your eyes open and you’re going to leave there with your eyes closed.’ I couldn’t take the pain every day.”

The article also details Depp’s frustration with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, which have earned him millions of dollars, and an Oscar nomination.

He said that he battled with screenwriters constantly about the plots: “Why must you have these f**king heinous subplots? It’s convoluted. There is not a f**king soul that wants to see Captain Jack Sparrow sad.”

It also broaches the allegations in the lawsuit that Depp was unable to remember his lines, and had to have them fed to him through an earpiece, and that he allegedly kept a sound engineer on the payroll specifically for this purpose.

The article claims that Depp does not deny using an earpiece, but that he was being played sound effects through the earpiece to help him ‘act with his eyes’.

“I’ve got bagpipes, a baby crying and bombs going off,” says Depp. “It creates a truth. Some of my biggest heroes were in silent film. It had to be behind the eyes. And my feeling is, that if there’s no truth behind the eyes, doesn’t matter what the f**king words are.”

As for the claims made by his former management company TMG, who said that he spent vast sums on vintage wines every month, Depp offered: “It’s insulting to say that I spent $30,000 on wine. Because it was far more.”

The article is online now.
