David Muir, Jussie Smollett Join Kelly Ripa’s ‘Live’ Guest Co-Host List – Update
UPDATED, 3:30 PM: Disney-ABC has released the rest of Kelly Ripa’s guest co-host list for her first Michael Strahan-less week:
Tuesday, May 17 – Empire star Jussie Smollett
Wednesday, May 18 – Comedian Cedric the Entertainer
Thursday, May 19 – ABC News anchor David Muir
Friday, May 20 – Actor Daniel Dae Kim
PREVIOUS, Tuesday, May 3: ABC’s late-night host Jimmy Kimmel will be Kelly Ripa’s first Live! guest co-host after Michael Strahan departs on Friday, May 13. The Jimmy Kimmel Live star will guest co-host on Monday, May 16, which is the day before Kimmel is scheduled to entertain media buyers and station execs at ABC’s Upfront presentation in Lincoln Center. Kimmel’s ABC Upfront seventh-inning stretch always is a highlight, and usually a headline, of each year’s Broadcast TV Upfront Week.
When Disney-ABC announced Strahan was exiting the show he’d co-hosted about four years in order to join Good Morning America full time, the company said Strahan would stick around until September, after which Ripa would begin another co-host search. But Ripa went MIA for a couple days after the announcement, in reaction to having been informed not long before the press got the news. The day she came back, the company announced Strahan would not continue to co-host Live with Kelly and Michael until September, but would instead exit a week from Friday. The change gives producers time to find his replacement, before Ripa’s contract comes up in ’17.
