'Jason Bourne' Teaser: First Look at Matt Damon's Return

“My God, that’s Jason Bourne.”

Sunday’s Super Bowl brought our first look at the return of Matt Damon to one of his most iconic roles: the ultimate super spy in the newly-titled sequel Jason Bourne. The first teaser for the July 29 thriller is light on plot details, but heavy on action, showing a ripped Damon brawling tattooed bruisers in some distant, dusty fight club. (Producer Frank Marshall had previously given fans a glimpse of his shirtless star on Twitter.)

We also catch flashes of grim urban chaos, a speeding motorcycle and a spectacular multi-car crash, as an official, played by Tommy Lee Jones, asks, “Why would he come back now?” Damon played the amnesiac assassin in three movies between 2002 and 2007 before stepping away from the franchise for 2012′s The Bourne Legacy, which starred Jeremy Renner as agent Aaron Cross.

The Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass is returning for Jason Bourne, as is costar Julia Stiles as Bourne’s sidekick Nicky Parsons. Among the new cast members are Alicia Vikander and Vincent Cassel. In August, Damon told BuzzFeed about some of the themes of the new sequel. “Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon said. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”
