Jason Bateman, Tina Fey Play Family Feud in New Trailer for 'This Is Where I Leave You'

Here’s the first trailer for This Is Where I Leave You, the new comedy from Date Night director Shawn Levy, featuring the kind of big-name ensemble cast you might normally see in the Grand Budapest Hotel. Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, and Corey Stoll play four estranged (and very vocal) siblings, forced to spend time together under one roof with their mother (Jane Fonda) after their father dies. The circling friends and family include Dax Shepherd, Connie Britton, Timothy Olymphant, Kathryn Hahn, and the default comedy girlfriend of the moment, Rose Byrne.

But This could have looked a lot different: the film nearly went into production last year with director Adam Shankman and an entirely different cast, including Zac Efron and Goldie Hawn. (Only Bateman stuck around.) The final ensemble seems damn near perfect for a comedy with some pathos; actors like Driver ( Girls) and Stoll ( House of Cards) all know how to swivel gracefully from dropping a one-liner to ripping your heart out. Jane Fonda does too, though judging from the trailer, her main function is to set up jokes with her cosmetically enhanced breasts. At least Tina Fey is sure to have a meaty role; after years of watching Liz Lemon’s pent-up rage, it’s nice to see her finally take a swing at somebody.

This is Where I Leave You opens on September 12.
