Jamie Dornan Gets Ready to Masquerade in 'Fifty Shades Darker' Photo

Who is that masked man? It’s none other than Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), trying on a new look for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades of Darker. In this first promotional photo for the upcoming film, Christian dons a tuxedo and an eye mask as he prepares to take Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) to a masquerade ball. As those who have read E.L. James’s erotic novels know, that dance will bring about the fateful meeting between Anastasia and Christian’s ex-lover Elena Lincoln, whom Anastasia nicknames “Mrs. Robinson.” The image above is a still from a Fifty Shades Darker “tease” included on the Fifty Shades of Grey Blu-ray, in stores May 8.

At this point, many elements of the Fifty Shades sequel have yet to be tied down (so to speak). Casting has not been announced for “Mrs. Robinson” or any of the other new characters. A new director has not been announced since Sam Taylor-Johnson, who helmed the hugely successful first movie, officially bowed out of the franchise in March. A screenwriter was finally named yesterday, when it was reported that E.L. James’s husband, Niall Leonard, an uncredited writer on Fifty Shades of Grey, will write the script for the sequel. One thing we do know for certain is the release date: Fifty Shades Darker will open in theaters in February 2017, followed by the final installment of the trilogy, Fifty Shades Freed, in February 2018.
