James Wan Rumoured To Quit Aquaman

Following on from the news that Seth Grahame-Smith has pulled out of directing ‘The Flash’, rumour has it that James Wan is expected to be the next DC drop-out.

Birth.Movies.Death report that Wan is about to walk out on production of ‘Aquaman’, starring Jason Mamoa as the sea-dwelling hero.

“According to multiple, reliable sources James Wan is feeling a tremendous amount of trepidation about ‘Aquaman’. It’s important to remember two things - ‘Fast 7′ was a very difficult process for him, even without Paul Walker’s tragic death, and James Wan doesn’t really need ‘Aquaman’.”

They also say that Warner Bros. executives have been in full panic mode after the backlash surrounding ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, which received lukewarm reviews and was criticised for its lack of humour and overly serious tone.

Not only did ‘Dawn of Justice’ suffer a battering critically, but it’s not done particularly amazing at the box office either. The film was predicted to surpass the $1 billion mark, but is currently sitting at $855 million.

The pressure of the film could still prove too much for the director, especially with his other film commitments this year. He’s got ‘The Conjuring 2′ out this summer (also for Warner Bros.), so Wan would still be bringing in some big earnings but it’d certainly be a shame if he did leave his first superhero venture.

Should Wan indeed walk, it’d throw the DC schedule into all sorts of trouble, especially if new directors coming in want to make script alterations or have different casting preferences. Should Wan chose to leave, there would be nothing to stop him from joining, say, the Disney and Marvel directing teams at some point in the future - surely an even more mouthwatering prospect?
