Check Out Photos of Famous Hollywood Fathers and Their Daughters
It’s Father’s Day weekend, and LIFE.com is celebrating with a gallery of classic photos of famous dads with their daughters, pulled from the iconic magazine’s archives. The above photo is of the late Tony Curtis with infant daughter (and future movie star) Jamie Lee Curtis in 1959. It’s an adorable shot, though it becomes more complicated when you keep in mind that Jamie Lee has been open about the fact that he wasn’t around during her formative years — though time eventually brought them closer together. “My dad and I get along great now,” Curtis told the New York Times in 1992. “When you’re a celebrity’s daughter, you have to ride that horrible line between wanting to be proud of your parents and being ashamed of them.”
Next is Alfred Hitchcock with his only daughter Patricia, pictured here together in 1942. Patricia, an actress, would go on to have small roles in three of her father’s movies: Stage Fright, Strangers on a Train, and Psycho, in which she played Janet Leigh’s coworker; she also appeared in ten episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
